This is a really tough post to write about. I am definitely NOT an expert. In fact, I am continually working on growing my mindset every single day. But, I feel like I have to share what I've learned, because it has really changed everything for me.
Have you every seen someone do something really impressive and you thought to yourself, "I could never do that."? That right there is basically telling your own future. If you start right off the bat being negative and doubting yourself, do you really think you're going to try your hardest?
Let's look at an example. Lets say your trainer at the gym does 5 pull ups then tells you to do the same and you tell him, "I can't do that." I honestly think that you probably aren't going to try your hardest just so you can be right! But if you went up there and gave it your all and did 1 pull up you would feel so amazing, your trainer would be cheering you on and you would be motivated to do 2 the next time.
These beliefs we have about ourselves start young. Were you every given a label as a kid? Maybe your teachers called you smart or a coach called you a good athlete? Or maybe someone said you weren't athletic or your art teacher told you that you couldn't draw. Whatever label got placed on you back then I am guessing still stays with you now.
I was labeled smart as a kid. I got straight A's, was valedictorian of my high school class, and graduated summa kum laude from pharmacy school. I believed I was smart but I also worked my butt off studying all throughout my schooling. That was a belief I had about myself that I really like and I didn't want to live below that label.
On the other had, I also had a belief about myself that I was shy. This belief kept me from talking to people, making friends, attending events that I really wanted to go to, and just generally putting myself out there. I still struggle with this belief at times, it's kind of my safe zone, but I work on myself daily to reform my belief and not let it hold me back.
Maybe you have the mindset that you could never do a Whole30. Well, then you pretty much can't. You have to open up your mind to the possibility that you can do literally anything. Maybe you've tried in the past and failed. Great! You have something to learn from. Your past experiences are not a reflection of your future. I don't care how many diets you've tried and failed. I don't care how many times you've tried black coffee and didn't like it. You can do anything you set your mind to.
So, what limiting beliefs do you have about yourself?
